BCPA was the performing arts management team that administered the Bayou City Women’s Chorus and the Gay Men’s Chorus of Houston. In 2017 they hired me to work with them to redesign their website into a modern and responsive platform comparable to those of other similar organizations around the country. The result was a modern site that supported fundraising, events, and chorus recruiting.
The website was built on WordPress using a page builder to streamline content updates and empower non-technical users to manage the site independently. I customized layouts using HTML and CSS, and integrated multiple third-party APIs to support event listings, donation processing, and newsletter signups. The final build prioritized mobile responsiveness, accessibility, and ease of maintenance — ensuring long-term sustainability for a small arts nonprofit with limited resources.
More about BCPA
BCPA was founded as the Montrose Singers, Inc. in November of 1979. Led by founding director Andy Mills, they were one of the first five gay male choruses in the United States, and continued to entertain audiences for 40 years.
Through music, theatre, and other forms of artistic expression, Bayou City Performing Arts promoted the ideals of tolerance, social justice, and inclusiveness. The performers were a diverse group of artists who combined a love of their art form with a commitment to excellence.
The Houston-based men’s chorus met with early successes marked by lavish productions at the Tower Theatre, featuring up to 80 singing members. The BCPA family of choruses expanded to include Gay Men’s Chorus of Houston (GMCH) and Bayou City Women’s Chorus (BCWC). I was privileged to volunteer as the BCPA Marketing Director and manage creative design, and their social media in 2017 and 2018.
